Nothing, I am convinced, happens by chance but is part of a design which we have to follow.
The husband I chose is a master carpenter, a man whose work is his passion, and he introduced me to a craft for which I felt an immediate enthusiasm ñ the restoration of wood and antique furniture. What started as a hobby soon became my work after an apprenticeship and the good fortune to spend time in the workshop of a master restorer of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage who had spent years working on furniture and wooden objects damaged during the Florence flood of 1966.
And so, together my husband Marcello and I enhanced our carpentry shop with the addition of a small workshop dedicated to restoration, my contribution to the family business. It is a distinguishing feature of our family that we are never content to rest on our laurels and so I soon felt the need to open my own shop, a “bottega” where I could display my work and sell the restored pieces and it is at this point, in 1999, that a close friend suggested a French name which is why my shop is called “Bonheur”. It’s a small space where I have tried to create a niche of good taste and joy.
Over the years my passion for decoration and all that adorns a home, which perhaps was not so heartfelt in the beginning, has developed into something which I feel as a real need and so “Bonheur” little by little, has become an enchanted place of colours, perfumes and articles which embrace everything which serves to make our lives sweeter.
Those who come into this little world of mine find themselves drawn to an infinity of objects, of fragrances and in spite of themselves, their faces light up with pleasure, and this, I assure you, is my gratification.
